Power consumption constitutes an ever growing share of living costs, especially for single-family households. Currently is a small hardware device that collects data from nearly any energy meter on the market today. The mobile companion app gives customers a simple and actionable way to gain insights into their energy usage habits, helping to reduce both costs and environmental footprint. We were involved in the project from the very beginning, providing technical guidance on how the app should be built, as well as delivering a visual identity for the brand and designing the app itself.
Many apps in the home energy management segment target expert users, with designs and brands that are correspondingly technical in nature. For Currently, we instead decided to pursue a warm and up-beat tone of voice that invites all members of the household to participate in energy planning.
Graphs and other data visualizations are a vital part of the app, so colors, layout and typography needed careful consideration to ensure that the information is legible and easy to understand.
To facilitate the mounting and installation of the device, we created a step-by-step onboarding sequence that combines text with helpful illustrations to guide the user through the process.
A warm primary color palette and clean, modern typography lends the brand an energetic and approachable vibe, helping Currently to stand apart from competitors in a crowded market.
The logo mark depicts a lightning bolt formed by vertical graph bars, hinting at the energy insights the brand promises to provide.
